Welcome to Scroll in Space! This journal is dedicated to prose, creative fiction and non-fiction, that foregrounds story.

All journals have a history, and Scroll in Space is no exception. I first thought of this idea back in 1982, but at the time the technology did not exist to implement what I envisioned. Today, it does.

Scroll in Space fosters community among writers and readers who enjoy creative prose with memorable characters and story.

All viewers can read Scroll in Space, but those who want to comment, to submit a story, to check out writers' links or to participate in polls need to become a member. Membership is free. Just follow the prompts on the screen for new members.

All too often authors write, but rarely learn what readers have thought or said about their work. Scroll in Space offers readers an opportunity to comment, to tell the author what they enjoyed. There is a section called Writers Read where contributing authors will be invited to review contemporary fiction. Thus, I invite our readers to write (to post comments on the writing they have read on Scroll in Space) and our writers to read (to post their book reviews of contemporary writing they recommend).

In addition, Scroll in Space is a resource for writers and readers. At the top of the menu, there are writers' links to sites where those interested can find reference works, information about writing workshops, conferences, and writing programs, as well as resources about publishing. Readers have input. For instance, if you find sites that you think might be of interest to our readers, then please submit the address for the site to the editor for consideration.

Since it's an online journal, Scroll in Space does not have issues. Rather, as the name suggests, it is like a scroll continually unrolling in space, revealing new stories as soon as they have been reviewed. The image of the scroll in space also illustrates the importance of combining the new and the conventional.

Scroll in Space is an online community for writers and readers; however, Scroll Press publishes books. The online journal is a venue for editors to review material for publication by Scroll Press.

Periodically, as editor of Scroll Press, I will also ask my editorial board (see masthead) to select material from Scroll in Space for publication in book format. Readers' polls are quite helpful in this selection process. We will pay industry standard royalties to authors of all books published by Scroll Press and all of these books will be distributed in the United States and in Canada.

Once again, welcome. Enjoy. Pass the word on about Scroll in Space to anyone who enjoys reading prose.

    Dee,

Just caught your interview on CBC with Sheryl MacKay. Love your idea. The implementation is excellent. This has been a major effort for you. Well done!

Your dream will continue to grow and become ever more real. I look forward to watching it do so.

Best of luck to you and your venture. / ljt
